Marvel Studios is developing a Kung-Fu expert Shang-Chi adaptation of the House of Ideas comics on a script Dave Callaham is working on.
Destin Daniel Cretton is in charge of directing the film that will have a predominantly oriental team and with the clear intention of breaking stereotypes.
The film will star Simu Liu as the oriental hero, Cry Macho but we will also have the debut of the real Mandarin played by Tony Leung. Other cast members include Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy; Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan; Meng’er Zhang as Xialing; Ronny Chieng as Jon Jon; Fala Chen as Jiang Li and Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist ..
It is said that we could see other secondary villains such as Midnight Sun, Tiger-Claw, Razor-Fist, Moving Shadow or Ghost Maker.
In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of a China-based globalist tycoon (in the original comics he is Fu Manchu) who raised and educated his progeny in his isolated Chinese compound, closed off from the outside world. The son trained in martial arts and developed unsurpassed skills. In the end, he is introduced to the outside world to carry out his father’s orders: commit murder. However, his mother reveals to him that his revered father may not be the humanitarian he has claimed to be and is closer to what others call: The Devil’s Doctor, a powerful international criminal. This led father and son to distance themselves and to be sworn enemies.
